Cultural Diplomacy & Preservation
We preserve Royal Thai history across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York, where the family of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) resided from 1916 to 1928, and we support the advancement of medicine and public health in Thailand.
Our stewardship began with the installation of the King Bhumibol Adulyadej Birthplace Monument at King Bhumibol Square, Harvard Square, in 2003 — now a central place for those who love His Majesty to gather, honor, and pay their respects.
A Heritage of Healing
Rama IX · 1927–2016
Born at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge on December 5, 1927, His Majesty reigned for seventy years. On a 1960 visit to Harvard he affirmed that Thailand “owed its present public health programs” to the knowledge his father brought home with his medical degree.
1892–1929
The father of His Majesty and “the Father of Modern Medicine, Public Health, and Higher Education of Thailand.” His studies at Harvard forged the enduring bond between Thai medicine and American academia that the Foundation carries forward.
The Sufficiency Economy
His Majesty’s philosophy of moderation, reasonableness, and resilience guided Thailand’s development for decades — a framework of balanced, sustainable progress that continues to inform public health and humanitarian work around the world.
